Abbey mortgage deal ending October - they won't discuss until July

Hi
Just spoken to Abbey regarding our deal ending in October. They have said they only discuss rates with customers 3 months in advance and can only hold their rates for that long.
I'm sure I've read somewhere that it is a good idea to look for deals six months in advance, or am I getting confused?

Abbey told me something similar. And I also thought you should start looking 6 months in advance. I suppose you can start looking at other lenders 6 months in advance, and if you get a super offer, take it! (That's what we will do.)

A&L wouldn't discuss any rates until 2 months before the end of my fixed rate EG, my fixed rate ends 30/6/8 so they would discuss it with me from 1/5/8 ... however I got it all sorted today :jWhether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0

So I guess what we really need to know is which lenders are prepared to make an offer and hold rates for six months. (Is there anyway of find out, apart from ringing around of course, or visiting a broker).
Or do they all do this for new borrowers, but not for existing customers?

You can start looking typically around 3 months before. Most offer letters expire within 3 months and the deals would be pulled a long time before the 6 months is up.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thank you for clarifying that Dunstonh.
Guess we will just have to wait and see what rates are like in 3 months time and take the best of what's there. It'll be an interesting wait I guess!
As long as I know there is nothing I should be doing at present I'll just keep my fingers crossed.
