Teachers pensions

What is your opinion of the proposed changes the government wants to make to the current teachers' pension scheme? Instead of retiring on 1/80th final salary for each year of service, it is proposed to change this to 1/60th but the raise the retirement age.
I'm sure you are probably more aware of other proposed changes than myself, and I would be very interested to hear your views.

Didn't know about this change!
I think that it somehow means the government will benefit more than they currently do.
Probably a predicted shortage of teachers combined with people living longer. I know an awful lot of retired teachers who do supply work and enjoy it because it doesn't involve paperwork...do you know if there is a cut off age for these changes to apply to?Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

1/60th schemes are very generous and few and far between these days - some one working for forty years would be able to retire on 2/3rds of their final salary - very nice indeed! Doesn't look like the teachers' unions have much to complain about then. (But I'm sure that won't stop them!)Midas.0
