Burn mark on wooden surface

I'm staying in a rented apartment at the moment and stupidly managed to get a burn mark of a pan on the wooden surface top in the kitchen

Does anyone have any ideas how I might be able to restore it? I could face the music but was warned about paying for any damages...

Was thinking of trying to lightly sand it and see if that helped... Also doesn't help that I'm in a foreign country so difficult to find someone to ask for help so if anyone has any suggestions (especially from experience), any advice would be much appreciated... Cheers

you need to give the burnt area a good sand with fine sandpaper (with the grain) to get rid of the burn marks and then the wood needs to be oiled afterwards with something called briwax that you can buy in ikea. wood really needs oiling twice a year to stay suitable for kitchen use.
wood needs maintainance to keep looking good so try to mop up any spills of water immediately or it will soak in and try not to burn anymore marks into it ;)
proper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance! :p
