Hello, I got a phone call tonight telling me I'd won a Jack Daniels competition to go to Tennessee and celebrate JD's 50th birthday.

Unfortunately I can't remember who I entered the comp with, I know it was on this site somewere but I can't find it now!!!!!!

I need to find more details asap, as the prize is the same weekend i'm supposed to be moving to uni!!!!!

If anyone could help i'd really appreciate it!!

that'll teach you for being a lurker and not signing up and posting a 'thank you' to the original poster :p

i can't see it on the forums at all

i did find the following elsewhere though, here:
    http://www.uncut.net/music/jack_daniels/special_features/8667
    and here:
    http://www.vh1.co.uk/vh1.co.uk/comps/jd_set_05.jhtml

could it have been either of those?
  • I vaguely remember the guy on the phone saying he was from virgin radio.

but when i checked their website it says the comp closes on friday!!!

    Sorry for being a lurker!!!

I'm just really paranoid about loads of people getting my email address, nothing personal!

I really want to go, but it means missing my first day at uni, which i'm sure isn't good!!!

The guy said he'd email me in the morning, so should know more then!!

    Thanks for your help!!!

yeah - i noticed the one with Virgin Radio - but i discounted it for the same reason as you.
if you've won it i wouldn't complain though.

i'm just messing with you about being a lurker - i'm sure we've all done it at some point.
  • I'm starting to get a bit paranoid now in a 'too good to be true' kinda way.

They called me twice, once earlier in the day saying they were calling everyone who entered to confirm they were available for travel and over 21 etc.

then later to say i'd won.

I just 1471'd and they called from a 077 number which i would figure is a mobile!?

The guy said he'd email me first thing in the morning, and would like me to reply with scans of passports to confirm age so they can arrange flights / visa.

I've done a google search and theres loads of websites that have ran the same competition, but most seem to have ended in august, with the promise they would inform the winners within 7 days.

probably just being paranoid, but it does seem too good to be true!!

I'm too torn because it colides with movin to my uni halls / first day of uni

When he e-mails you, you should get an idea of where he is from by the e-mail domain name.

If it is "rick@virginradio.co.uk" or similar then ring them up (on a number from their own website) and confirm its legit. If its "joe.bloggs@hotmail.com" then e-mail back and ask what company its with and then again ring the compay and check its legit, or do a google search if its an unknown company!

    Good luck

  • yeah, will do that.

  • Ok I got an email from Freud Communications (i've never heard of them!) saying:
Hi Chris, you’ve won the competition to Tennessee with Jack Daniel’s! Thanks for speaking with me a few days ago and confirming you understand all the terms and conditions of the prize. We will shortly be sending you a pack of information detailing more about the event. I now need to obtain a photocopy of your and your guest’s passport as proof that you are over 21 (to comply with American drinking laws). If you’re able to scan it in and email to me at this address that would be great. Alternatively please fax a photocopy to the address below. If you could do this today or tomorrow that would be great.
Do let me know if you have any questions.
    Alex

Like i say i've never heard of this company, but they do have my email address and land line number!

I wish i could remember entering this competiton!!!

I've looked on their website ' http://www.freud.com/clients/recent.html ' and they list the JD Birthday as one of their events so i guess it's possible that they are the organisers of the competiton / event and the different websites are just promoting the competition.

Seems strange though that they called me from a mobile number!

Anyone had any dealings with these people or any other info about this company or competiton?!

No, but I've done a quick whois on the domain name (freud.com), and that all looks okay. The company is also listed at companies house (https://www.companieshouse.gov.uk), and that all looks right too.

Personally, I'd still be nervous of sending off a copy of my passport... But first looks appear to indicate it's all above board.

    Well done!
    A.
