hi,
i am looking for a good driving school in belfast. i have tried acclaim and also ians and i wasn't really impressed so can anyone recommend somewhere or someone good.
also could you let me know how much they charge, do they do a 10 lesson deal and an intensive course.
sorry for all the questions but any help would be appreciated.

personally im with club mini and i think they are great
most companies now a days are £28 a lesson a group of 10 lessons will work out cheaper but personally i would take a few single lessons to make sure you like your instructor as if you dont it will take a much longer time to learn and pass your test0 -
I learned with Ians last year but it all depends which instructor you get I guess as they are a big company. My instructor was fantastic and I passed my test first time with him.0

my ians instructor was horrendous. never taught me anything just let me drive about for £250 worth of lessons! more fool me. passed my test with billys driving school who were excellent!love you lots like jelly tots0

any more feed back on these? which is better ians or acclaim?
or any other private that has godo rates?Wins so far:
£1,800, campari platter, limited edition peroni bottle opener, sharp blu ray player, £600 Karen Millen shopping spree, £550 limited edition blind, Capetown 7 day holiday, Tshirt, £100 Tesco Voucher, £100 Arcadia vouchers, 7 day Europe tour, £100 hotel voucher, limited edition capitan morgan bottle, 1 month bus pass travel.0 -
Premier 1 are also worth a look, a lot of instructors from other schools have gone to work for them.
I would advise you get to talk to the proposed instructor before arranging a first lesson to see if you're confident going out with them
/disclosure I used to be a driving instructor, but not with Premier 1Ignore the username - feel free to call me Goblin or Stuart0 -

I think Acclaim is better, but it definitely does depend on the instructor you get. At the moment Acclaim charge £200 for 10 lessons, and Ian's charge £220. There's talk of the price of lessons going up because of the increased fuel costs, so might be a good idea to block-book asap!"Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen."0 -
All driving instructors are self-employed and there really isn't any training to do it, so it is completely dependent on the instructor and nothing to do with the school.
One option is to look at the independent instructors, ones not affiliated with a school, as they are good enough to survive on their on by word of mouth instead of a school farming phone enquiries out across their drivers.Ignore the username - feel free to call me Goblin or Stuart0 -

There's actually a lot of training to do for a driving instructor to become qualified.
A trainee instructor will display a pink badge with a triangle on it and a fully qualified instructor will display a green badge with an octagon on it.
It is certainly instructor dependent and I completely agree that you should check out the instructor who will be teaching you - getting on with this person and the way they explain things is the most important part of the relationship. They should be able to explain complex problems in a simple manner which helps you to understand easily how to deal with situations safely and confidently.
The 2pass learner forum has some excellent hints and tips on how to choose a driving instructor.0 -
With reference to sgibson's last post where it was stated that there isn't any real training to become an ADI, approved driving instructor, i nearly fell off my seat in rage! How dare someone take the time to say becoming an ADI needs no real training....I myself have recently become qualified and I can tell you personally that it took loads of hard work and home study practice. SGIBSON obviously isn't professionally qualified to state such cr*p!! I, on behalf of the driving instructor community would like some form of backup to this statement that SGIBSON made, ASAP aswell please........0

Who told you there is very little training involved? I'm currently going through the training and believe me it's not easy0
