Looking after clothes

Can anyone tell me if it is still considered a good idea to put plastic covers over clothes in the wardrobe?

  • I do for items like suits and such that are not going to be worn in a while.

I think if they are going to be stored for a long time then maybe a proper suit/dress cover would be better. I think the material is breathable. You wouldn't get that with a normal plastic bag.

Yes I thought that might be the problem.
Not sure I have anything that would justify buying proper covers.

It's a funny thing... clothing is sooo cheap these days. It's so cheap that it doesn't always make sense to buy things in charity shops. (I know I've seen George tops in charity shops for £3 or so... why pay that much for George?! When I buy used, I want it to be top quality, kwim?) Anyway, the cheap stuff does wear out, doesn't it?

I'm really sick of acrylic sweaters that pill, etc. I'm thinking I need to really get in the habit of scouring charity shops for quality wool and cotton sweaters, THEN taking good care of them. In the meantime, I still take care of my stuff, but it just plain wears out faster.

Be very careful about storing suits etc in those covers - keep checking them.

My OH had his 'good suit' in a bag - very rarely needs to wear one and we thought no more about it. We were going to a christening and he decided to get it out of the cover to see if it needed pressing beforehand (had been in there for about 18 months). He was appalled to find that 'something' had been nibbling away at it and it was full of holes. We never did find out what it was but needless to say, we cleared his flat out and moved all his clothes to my place AFTER checking them all over very closely! Nothing else had been touched at all - very strange - but the suit was 100% pure wool.
