I posted this a month or so ago, but I clearly didn't word the title right as no one read it so here goes agian..(I hope it is in the correct place?!)
If you have expensive frames that need new lenses read on....
I think being able to buy cheap prescription glasses and sun glasses is a must and a forum a little while ago raised this and the general consensus was for cheap original designer makes was to buy from listed companies in the US.
I needed to replace my Silhouette glasses (cost +£250) with new lenses because of my updated prescription. The cheapest quote I could get in the UK was £125 plus P&P and in the US was £70 plus P&P.
Unfortunatly none of the companies listed in the previous "Cheap Glasses" threads could help with replacement lenses, just the complete spectacles.
I then found a UK based Company called Sight 91 based in Kent, who were happy to match the cheapest US quote on a like for like basis, the lenses are the same form as supplied by Sillouette, (and not just for lenses but complete glasses/sunglasses).
I have now used this company and I have to say Vanessa (who I think is the Manager) could not be more helpful and their Service is second to none, where the customer is always put first.
From browsing their website it appears that they are very competative against the US market.
Hence my recommendation. I hope it helps.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body,
but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming ..... wow what a Ride!

My silhouette glasses, which are rimless, came with polycarbonate lenses with anti scratch and anti glare coating, and I got an exact replacement (apart from the change in prescription!) for £70, very very happy!
I am currently waiting to get some Bolle and Oakley sunglasses sent to me from them to see which I like so I can get a nice pair of designer sunglasses with prescription lenses, all for about £100!
Like I said I think their Customer Service is great, when I enquired about sunglasses (clearly based on my Silhouette frames) they suggested various models/makes that they thought would suit me and they asked me if I wanted to trail a few pairs, so now I am waiting for them to arrive.
Additionally my mother has a bi-focal prescription I phoned today and to change her designer lenses with her prescription plus polarised lenses will cost £120, which from my research is a great price.
I hope this helps.Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body,

I need to replace the lenses in my glasses due to a prescription change.
A high street optician quoted between £270 and £383 for replacement prescription lens for sunglasses.
Online I'm quotes between £89 - £119
It seems a no brainer.
When I challenge my High Street Optician he tells me that on line they strip out all the expertise offered by a fully trained optometrist in terms of understanding your eyes and fitting glasses to your personal needs.
In addition I would get a 2 year guarantee on the
He told me that the tolerances they need to work to fitting glasses to me with my prescription are less than 2mm, something impossible for an on-line guy to do without seeing me.
Similarly in the UK anyone can set themselves up to sell glasses, frames and lenses, so you don't know about the quality of the advise they give or even if they will actually deliver the lenses they say they will.
How do we know the lens is correctly produced and to the best quality or that the coatings such as the polarisation on the sunglasses really is Polaroid or Essillor
Apparently as with life you get what you pay for, the quality of lenses and coatings differ significantly.
My Optician was telling me that the prices I was being quoted were lower than his cost price and he is getting the biggest discounts offered by the manufacturers.
All in all I'm left rather confused.
Do I go for the on line solution, save a bomb but destroy my eyesight or pay £250 for replacement lenses and reassurance?
Whats the truth of the matter?0 -

Think you've answered your own question there. With single vision lenses being around £79 in high street shops, the fact that online the lenses cost more than this suggests you are after a varifocal that possibly needs thinning down.
It is a lot of money to pay in the high street but you'll be very lucky to not throw your money away buying something from online. You will have no idea if you've got what you've paid for and no comeback if they aren't the right prescription. If you only have a small prescription change it might be better sticking with your current glasses and updating them at your next sight test.Times is 'ard.0
