Hi wonder if any one can help with answers to a few questions and my situation!!
i have £26,500 debt currantly in an iva with freeman jones, i was approached by a company called uk bankruptcy who said i should never have been sold an iva as i have no property or assets and since being in iva since jan 2007 it has risen from £316 a month to over £500, after some advice from them and cab it seems i have nothing to loose going br and have told my iva company i plan to go br but think i can do it on my own rather then pay uk br £1050 to do it for me.
I officially live with my parents but spend most of my time at my girlfriends who i would love to move in with officialy, but we are worried how it will affect her, when it comes to doing the in and out goings for br should i put half of all the bills as i was living with her or shall i just state it as i live with my parents, i will be moving in and paying half after i have gone br so was just wondering to start as i mean to go on, all bills rent etc is in her name, will the court want proof that i live there? sholud we go official before i go br? sorry to go on but such alot to consider, want to get it right after many years of makin the wrong choices! the cab were quite helpful but didnt really give any more advice than what we already knew! alos have heard that you dont havr to pay tax at work after br is this correct? any advice would be a great help!

You can definitely do the paperwork yourself and save the £1k!!
As you're in an IVA, most of the information you need will be included in the IVA proposal.
With regards to tax, you normally receive a Nil/NT tax code, so you don't pay tax on your employment at date of BR for the current tax year. So if you pay £300 p/m in tax, you receive £300 p/m more in your take home pay, and pay this over to the OR.
Please speak to one of the other debt charities, always good to get a second opinion.0 -
Hello
Well the tax thing - this is correct but the OR takes what you would have paid to the IR anyway.
Whatever you do DO NOT pay for any company to help with your BR - there really is no need, you can do everything yourself and people here will help you.
First thing you must do is get some professional advice - try CCCS or national debtline. If either of these agree that bankruptcy is for you then come back and post again and we will help you. If they say that BR is best then go for it - a lot of people put it off for months , even years, and still find themselves having to do it later on.
If you do come back it might be an idea to do an SOA so that the lovely people here can advise you

Definitely don't pay anyone to make you BR!! If you do decide to go BR then there are plenty of people here who can help you if you have any questions or need guidance!:hello:Save a little money each month and at the end of the year you’ll be surprised at how little you have.An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind0

Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS)| National Debtline| Business Debtline| Find your local CAB
Pinched from WDIAG's Sig (thanks in advance!)
I personally went to CCCS and found them to be very helpful, although I know national debtline do just as good a job. It might be a good idea to do an SOA before contacting them so that they can give you some proper informed advice.Sometimes you have to go throughthe rain to get to therainbow0 -
Beware UK bankruptcy- I think they search Insolvency Service website and target people in IVAs- then call them, posing to be an "IVA Council" telling them theyve been mis sold an IVA- and plug UK bankruptcy "service". They charge £1600 to "help" you go bankrupt.
Speak to CAB, National Debtline or CCCS to see if your IVA is viable or bankruptcy would be better, avoid UK bankruptcy like the plague.0 -
The IVA Council is a discredited organisation which cloned the government Insolvency Service website and wrote to thousands of people holding IVAs to try to persuade them to switch.
There is a notice on the Insolvency Service website about them. A gentleman named Sean Mason was behind this.
It appears that Sean's latest venture is UK Bankrupcy. Please draw your own conclusions.
