Bank sent details of my account to my husband

Did no harm in our case but could have had far reaching affect on others. I have an online e saver with Abbey - they sent details of the amount plus interest earned for this year to my husband who opened it - good job we have no secrets. But it also had slight errors on the first line of address and also post code and was delivered because the postie knows us. I phoned Abbey to complain bitterly - the operator would not talk to me - guess why - the details I gave her didn't match!!!!! Eventually she did speak to me because I gave her the details of another account that I have with Abbey. Says it is "logged" as an error but can take up to 8 weeks to correct -complete blunder. Should I also write to them to "log" my feelings. If so who would be best to write the letter to - I still feel very angry at this mistake.

That is really bad. I think you should write to the manager to complain.
It could have caused a lot of problems. If you write to them, they will have to respond. Phone calls are a waste of time I think.

MeggyMay, a genuine thankyou for expressing your annoyance with Abbey, without asking if people think you should ask for compensation.

This happened to me just after I got married, I wrote to change my name on a savings account and a joint savings account, for some reason they changed the name on my sole account into Mr XXXXX (we have the same initial ) and sent a statement.

My DH also had an account with them and he thought it was his, when it didn't match what he was expecting he called them to ask about the discrepencies. Of course they refused to discuss my account and he realised what had happened.

The consequences for the bank for disclosing information to a third party are quite high so they are always keen to sort it out without involving the ombudsman.

They offered a compensation package without prompting from me and they doubled the balance in my account. The compensation for mistakes was one of their selling points so I didn't feel bad taking it.

This happening doesnt surprise me at all with the Abbey! They are a total nightmare to deal with. My partner is still waiting for 12 months bank statements off them so he can complete his divorce. Its been going on now for 4 months despite numerous phone calls and going into the local branch. We sent a recorded delivery letter requesting the statements 2 weeks ago and have still heard nothing! It looks as if his divorce will never go through because of this. It feels like were banging our heads against a brick wall !

I've still got to contact Lloyds to find out why they've sent a letter addressed to me in my married name to my dad's house where I've never lived since opening the account 2 years ago. I've no idea how they even got hold of the address, it wouldn't have been on any paperwork as a previous address as I haven't lived there for 13 years!
