You have got to be pro active about this.
Find something that excites and motivates you and really pin your ears back and go for it!
It may take some time to find what really enthuses you but it will be well worth it.

Yes..I thought I'd add to a previous posters comments..it is important to view university as a time of 'personal development' not just a guaranteed 'leg up' into a better career.
Granted, you would expect to end up in better employment than a school leaver, but should remeber the social, and personal gains you make.. i.e moving away from home and creating a new social world for yourself, learning to educate and think for yourself rather than it be drummed into you as in gcse's and a levels etc.Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0 -

Feel a bit depressed. My boyfriend has just ran into an 'old school friend' at the university. She is completing her Masters in Biochemistry and is working as a biochemist.
She is a really nice girl, pretty, intelligent and owns a £100,000 apartment!
Dont feel jealous....just more of a disappointment. Why dont i know what i want to do and do it? How on earth have i got to this point where i am afraid to move forward incase i am not good enough?
I have application forms unfilled because, i no longer feel like i can do anything? :wall:
Some days are easier than others.
Hiya, Havent' posted for a while because I was hoping I would be able to come back & tell you I was feeling better. Unfortunately, I'm still feeling the same as youI have so many unfilled application forms because I feel like I am not capable of anything. I really am very fed up & don't know why I bothered doing my degree. Like you said, it doesn't help when you see articles saying graduates will be on a starting salary of £20,000. This whole situation feels like an absolute joke to me, all I see for graduates where no experience is required, are graduate training schemes leading up to managerial positions. Well, what if I don't want that sort of job? So much seems to be in sales& marketing & I am just not that type of person at all.
I feel so lost, just like you0 -
Hello all,
Well, this weekend i attended a conference held by Psychiatrists to discuss the effect of the tsunami in areas such as Sri lanka.
It was truely enlightening and i was fortunate enough to meet some of the high profile speakers.
The majority of psychiatrists that attended were of Sri lankan orgin. In speaking to them, it was obvious that eductaion in their society and culture is paramount.
Everyone wanted to know what degree i had taken and what i did for a living. At times i felt embarrassed and instead of focusing on my lack of a career, i tried to focus on my aims and ambitions.
The whole experience made me wonder whether i would be capable of becoming something like a psychiatrist. I spoke to one gentleman who entered the profession at 29 and is now top in this field.
The main piece of advice i received is, find something and stick to it. Dont deviate too far from it....dont be a jack of all trades and master of none!
Their lifestyle is so varied and interesting. However, it isnt a easy field to get in to. To become a psychiatrist i would have to attend medical school for 4-6 yrs and then become a SHO and pass various levels of exams.
I would love to do something like this but, lack confidence.....i dont think i am clever enough. :-(0
