may just get allowance / expenses paid, to make up for duff pay?

HM customs and excise may want the firm to explain this though..

  • If he is paid his petrol for his commuting (if it is classed as ordinary commuting meaning travel from your house to his workplace) then this is a taxable benefit.

So what's to stop him filling up several times day and selling the stuff on?

Interesting dilemma; let us know how it pans out for him.

The petrol is a taxable benefit if he is not doing any business miles. I would also be wary of a job which guaranteed a take home pay as everyone's tax affairs are different and an employer cannot take that into consideration. In view of the fact that the petrol use is unmonitored, this looks dodgy to me.
