Full and final settlement - affecting bank charges reclaim?

Options
Hi All,

Over the last year my fiance managed to run up £1000 of bank charges on a dormant Natwest account as he forgot that he was still being charged a management fee for the account which took him into the red. Stupid man! Anyway, on Saturday I finally opened his pile of bank statements and realised what happened we rang up to settle the debt. They offered to accept a reduced payment of £600 as full and final payment. (Natwest must be doing all it can to reclaim debts as I was expecting to pay the amount in full!) Anyway, my question is: as this debt was almost entirely bank charges we plan to claim it back from Natwest. Will us accepting a reduced payment to settle the debt affect claiming back the charges?
I asked to receive comfirmation in writing that it will be a full and final payment before we settle the debt so we can still renegotiate if it will impact on our charges claim.
Any advice?
