who can negotiate my debts for me?

Options
Hello all you lovely people willing to help. Good to find you here.
I have debts with Egg £3880 and Lloyds overdraft £2000. I have been left £2000 by a relative and want to use this to get myself as far out of debt as possible. I have spoken to the CCCS and they recomended I come here and get advice on who you guys recomend to negotiate the debts on my behalf. I want to see if I can get a reduced full and final settlement from either or both banks. As I live outside the UK, have a very irregular income, (or none at all.) I think they may see reason in accepting something rather than nothing from me but CCCS thought that maybe I would be in a stronger position not doing the bartering myself. Any advice??

What stage are your debts at? Have you defaulted?
Are they still will egg & Lloyds or have they been passed to a debt collector?

The CCCS, payplan or Citizens advice money advisers can all negotiate with creditors on your behalf without charging a fee. You can also do a 'self DMP' where you negotiate on your own... but generally creditors are more willing to deal with official bodies like the CAB, CCCS. Etc.

Sorry but that is wrong - I am self managed DMP and I think compared to some people I got my creditors to accept a lot earlier on and got interest refunded back.

The problem with the finance industry is that there are no set rules for when people struggle each company deals with things differently so there are no blanket conclusions you can draw.

Take a look at the national debtline website they have all the template letters and budget calculator there. If you request a hard copy of there guide and read that I am sure you will feel empowered to deal with things when you know your rights.

Thats how I tackled mine and it was long before this site so I really was alone!

I think its really odd that CCCS suggested coming to MSE to find that out, as I automatically thought your best bet would be to contact CCCS to negotiate. I negotiated my own payments and apart from 1 it was all plain sailing, but I understand why some people might not be able to handle it themselves.
