Mackenzie Hall. Help Needed

Hi i just been told by a friend i used to live with that mackenzie hall have been trying to contact me. He said that they had recieved a letter from them a few weeks ago and that yesterday morning baliefs had been round. My friend does not know my new address and i dont plan on telling him as we do not get on, so there is no way that they can find where i live. Should i get in contact with mackenzie hall or just avoid and hope they go away. Any help much appreciated. Cheers

No, the bailiffs would NOT have been round!
It was almost cerainly a MH doorknocker looking for you, probably illegally suggesting to your 'friend' he's a bailiff.
There would have to be a court judgement for a bailiff to have called, and your 'friend' would have had a A5 sized brown court envelope from Northampton a month or so before in your name. If your 'friend' returned it, the court would not have heard the case anyway as the summons wouldn't be considered served on the defendant.

With Mackenzie Hall, It is quite likely that it isn't your debt anyway and whoever's it was it will be over 6 years old and statute barred. Do a search on them on this site and generally to get a flavour of how they operate.

I agree. Any contact is just going to encourage them. They've probably written to a dozen people with similar names anyway and just waiting for a sucker to bite.

Is this what they do? I had some letters from them in the surname as mine, I assumed someone had committed identity fraud by using my surname to apply for credit (it was a Provident loan) but maybe it was just them sending it to my address on the off chance, hope so, I managed to get them to stop sending letters by writing to them recorded delivery telling them it was nothing to do with me and that I was the only person of that name to ever live at this address.

Yes, Sam, that seems to be the way they work. I'm just a bit surprised that they laid off you when you wrote to them. Was this recently?

It did take a few recorded delivery letters but yes they did just stop, I think I threatened them with reporting them to someone for harrassment !
