There is hope then that something might get done with our problem then too, thanks for that. It's so tough sometimes fighting the system. You gotta ask yourself though what are the parenting skills like and sometimes maybe it is more to do with those than the actual child. Not that I am excusing violent behaviour but if that is all they have grown up around they will model it around their peers. Unfortunately I don't know what the answer is, clearly violence with violence isn't right but then I don't think the softly softly approach works in every circumstance either. I think in a ideal world when a child behaves in the way this one has that it should be a "whole of family" issue and everyone needs addressing, especially as its such an long ongoing problem.

Well, at the moment the teachers and head teacher agree with me that the behavioural policy at school isn't working. now, didn't i tell them that in my letter. they agree with everything that i say but as of yet they don't know how to tackle it. they say the problem is parents who don't support their kids or the school. exclusion isn't an option due to new guidelines. i pointed out that children with behavioural issues (and by this i mean the kids who are just plain naughty for the hell of it) are supported to the detriment of children like mine. he told me all children were supported. i think not. i asked if my child was safe in class and was told that he liked to think so. when i pointed out issues of violence and one child in dd's class he wasn't aware of the violence. give me a break.

i'd suggest the main issue is that children get away with murder and don't have to face the consequences of what they do but, hey, i'm just a mother.

i'm making phone calls in the morning to go visit some other schools. now to read the thread xx

Mudbath.. suggest to the head teaacher he goes to other schools to see how they deal with it and what practical exercises they have in place for misbehaviour. Surely there is a school in the area which they can call upon?

Ours have 'Restorative Practice' (load of the proverbial bull excretia but ti works!) they also have a 'good behaviour booklet' .. ALL the children get a stamo at the end of they day for being well behaved and when their booklet is filled they get a small prize.. a sparkly pencil or novelty rubber or similar. The children are given 2 warnings then sent to another class WITH some work to do.. usually sent to the 'scary teacher' If they are having to be sent out often they are given one of the behaviour books to do each week.. one stamp for the morning and one for the afternoon at the end of the week if they have all 10 stamps they get a treat.. Parents are reported to on a daily basis and if they don't collect the child/ren a letter is sent home or the head rings them... depending on the behaviour of the child and the literacy of the parent.... we have had a few who cannot read. Oddly it appears to be mainly the children of the more well off families that are the worst behaved!!

The LEA should also have a section they can call on for advice and ideas of strategies to deal with it!
