Is taking money without authorisation legal?

I have a question I hope someone will be able to answer!!!
I am in debt with a Halifax credit card; the debt has been passed to a debt-collecting agency. I have tried to set up payment plans, but they have not replied to my letters.

BUT on two occasions, January and April they have helped themselves to £300.00 and £598.00 out of my Halifax current account without my authorisation. And without informing me that they are doing that, And that they have done it, I have no receipt for these amounts.

Is this legal????

YES , this has been said many time now on the site . If you have a bank account and a credit card with the same company , they have within their conditions, the right to off set a debt from any of your accounts .We advise a differant account to avoid this happening .
