Can anyone help with Luxembourg law

I have found myself in a difficult situation and wondered if anyone has any helpful advise on what to do about it.
My husband worked in Luxembourg for 6 months and whilst he was there alone, he had to open a Luxembourg bank account for his wages to be paid into. However, my very foolish husband also accepted the credit card to go with the account and then even more foolishly, he went about spending on the credit card unbeknown to me!
Now, a year later, a letter has come through the door from a london law firm stating they are acting on behalf of the Luxembourg bank and require the full payment of the balance within fourteen days or the bank will start proceedings under Luxembourg Law which I obviously know nothing about. We are not in a financial position to find this amount of money in the next fourteen days, can anyone help and advise us on what our next course of action should be?
