Advice needed, worried about loan

Please could anyone help?

My husband and I applied for a loan, we were accepted, and the money has been transferred . we recieved a letter saying the application was successful, and after filling in all the forms(direct debits etc) we were notified the loan had been transferred into our account. As it is a different account to the bank we applied for the loan through, it should take 3-5 working days to clear, (transferred Friday 25th) however, we have noticed that although the sortcode is correct, the account numbers has 2 digits reversed!

There is no-one avialabe until Monday to speak to, and we are panicking that there is a chance this large sum could be paid into the wrong account?? Could this happen (or would everything, name etc have to match for it to go through) If it did go to the wrong account, what would we have to do?? Could someone take our money?

Thanks if anyone can help.

Is there anywhere you can email now, so that you feel that you've registered your concern as soon as possible?

I wouldn't worry too much - as you will speak to them at the first possible opportunity, they cannot penalise you if it's their mistake!
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).
  • It is unlikely that the account number they have is valid if they have got the numbers confused-if it is not a live bank account then the money will be returned to them, or alternatively if it has gone the wrong place, they can recall it. It is their mistake and they are obligated to rectify it so try not to worry-easier said than done but just ring first thing Monday and have it resolved-good luck.
Loan-£3600 only 24 months of payments to go!!!
All debt consolodated and cards destroyed!!
As D'Ream would sing 'Things.....can only get better'!!!

We've tried every phone number, and emails cannot be account specific.

I'm so worried about it going to someone elses account, and them taing the money out. If it did go to the wrong account, as it won't clear until Wednesday at the earliset, could it be stopped before it reached the wrong account??

Yea I should imagine so. I agree with Scousebird. If the bank make the mistake (which you think they have) then the onus will be on them to rectify the mistake (ie pay the money again to you and recover it from the account that you think it will go to)

Started DMP in Oct 2009, went wrong. Due to start new DMP in March/April 2013. Bring it on!

  • Thanks for the replies. I called the bank this morning, and they told me that it wasn't a valid account, and would be bounced back, and they would be issuing the funds again today via something called chaps?? So it should be with me by tomorrow.

They wuoldn't confirm that they were in the wrong, yet didn;t require me to fill out another DD form, and then said I should call back no sooner than a MONTH to find out who made the error.
