I love Aldi and Lidl, it's like home to me as I lived in Germany for 3 years, but Asda is much closer to me so I've been shopping there more regularly, now DD2 is going to school and I have more than 2 hours a day to get there, get my shopping, get home and unload it I will be shopping here much more although I will probably spend more money as they have many more tempting things
Their ice cream is to die for and it's so cheap.
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

I am exactly 50% German and 50% English and I don't prefer one to the other, but as I grew up in Germany I was quite able to be vegetarian without any probs at all. Lidl in Germany is heaps better than it is in the UK, but as I lived in England for 5 years I got used to what they did/ didn't have. Germans are about as clued up about veggies/vegans/halal/etc as every other nation but their mainstream goods are aimed at mainstream people, hence people who eat meat.
Anyway, sorry Zziggi didn't mean to cause trouble, Lidl and Aldi are in my opinion great places to shop, and if all else fails if ya need a translation just pm me and I will provide itxx BQ
Well i made sure i said ''in my experience" as I was sure other German's would perhaps disagree with me.I suppose i ought also add that I lived for 8 years in the DDR - which might account for the lack of awareness of minority dietry rules (veggies as well as ethnic minorities). West Germany is much more diverse on the whole, in my opinion. But you're right about Lidl in Germany being far better!!

I have nver tried Lidls because there is not one near to me, but I love Aldi. I go to sainsburys for the branded things that OH cannot do without, like breakfast cereal, and Ive never bought anything that I did not think was good if not better than Sainsburys. OH has not yet complained and he is a real food snob.
My DD had a complaint, apparently Aldi chicken breast nuggets have "too much chicken in them" Can I count that as a complaint?
I have managed to cut loads off our shopping bill by shopping there.0 -

loooooooooooooool sweetie sorry I just read back my message and I sound like what you would expect from a german, rude and obnoxious. Sorry I think the stubborness is inbred :rotfl: Oh, and I've only been to the east once  but from everything I have heard it used to be totally limited right, dunno how it is now as I got out before the economy crashedAnyway that's politics
I think Lidl is cool because you can buy "luxury" things you wouldn't normally get, i.e. blackforrest ham, smoked salmon etc (I could never afford those in another shop) so for me Lidl is "treatland". But I agree sometimes the veg is appalling, I think the best thing to do is work out when their delivery day is and turn up that day.Three years, six months, three weeks, 13 hours, 48 minutes and 30 seconds. 26011 cigarettes not smoked, saving $11,704.80. BQ I agree, I really missed Bratwurst and Frikadellen when I came back, I was over the moon when the first Lidl opened near me. I do find though with the veg that their onions can't be beaten for price, size and quality. Aldi don't seem to reduce their veg so I must remember to hit Lidl too.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

No problemDDR was an ''interesting time'' until everything took a massive downturn and the foreigners got blamed for it. You can re-unify a country but it'll take generations to mentally re-unify the attitudes of the people
Personally i much preferred living in the East before reunification  am i allowed to say such a thing??
I've met far more stubborn Brits than those of teutonic ancestry...0 -

That'll explain why on fruit delivery day i see all the local asian men walking out with sacks of onions.... what with Curry_Queens curry sauce i can see why all the onions are needed....0 -
Yeah good point moggins, the Frikadellen are TO DIE FOR. And also those funny square little meatrolls which have either cheese in them, or the indian ones with curry flavour, or my OH loves the mexican ones with salsa inside. (As you can see I didn't stay veggie forever. I just survived those teenage years like that lol)
I totally agree on your comments about the unification, and I do understand what you are saying about it being better before the wall came down. I think the kids of the west were not ready for what happened, and preparation was bad. But, anyway, I am now in Oz and miss Lidl's like crazy. Apparently they have Aldi in Melbourne and Sydney and I am SO dying to check it out, but no Lidl over here boo.

oh, and I made C-Q's curry sauce for the first time today and it is slightly bitter. What have I done wrong? And, do you guys use it like that or do you always "poshen" it up by following one of her other recipes through with it?Three years, six months, three weeks, 13 hours, 48 minutes and 30 seconds. 26011 cigarettes not smoked, saving $11,704.80. I'm another Lidl convert, although it's usually a PITA to shop there (my local has no baskets- what's that all about?) the prices/quality more than make up for it. Generally if there's a Tesco Value product that I know to be acceptable then I'll buy it, but if not the likelihood is that the Lidl product will be cheaper and/or better than what Tesco have to offer. It does pay to have a good memory though and do price comparisons, as there are exceptions.0
