Claiming commuting fuel money back

Is this possible?

I earn 15k a year but commute 600 miles per week. As you can expect, after paying the bills, i'm struggling to buy food.

Love my job, but with fuel prices and general living prices creeping up, i'm being forced to look else where.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Spoken to my manager, but she’s not one bit interested from what i can figure. Guess that’s life though.. Maybe there’s some law on this?

Unless your employer wants to help, there is zilch you can do about this other than economise - get a more fuel efficient car, move nearer your work, etc.

The only law is that IF your employer helps then that payment is taxable.
  • Are all 600 miles simply driving to and from your normal place of work? If so, there's not much you can do, tax wise. However, if there is any driving between sites, to clients etc, then it's possible to claim a deduction of 40p per business mile from your income, even if your employer is not actually paying you that allowance.
