What we do is have 1 account that has all direct debits and standing orders coming from it and the wages going into it monthly. We then have another joint account that I transfer all of our wages left after covering the payments. this account I use for shopping These accounts are with the same bank and I control the cards

My husband has a basic account with natwest and he gets a £20 a week standing order paid in each week because he spends money on crap and therefor isn't trusted with the main cards because he treats the overdraft like an usual part of his income not as an emergancy buffer

If you've not defaulted on any accounts yet but can see it possibly happening in the near future, personally, I would close any joint accounts & both have your own single accounts.
Otherwise, if one of you defaults, it will affect the credit files of both of you.
If you have single accounts, the defaults will only affect the credit files of that person.
