help! tax i need to pay for 07/08

i havent done tax returns before as ive only started generating taxable income last year. i need to pay tax for last financial year. i asked my mum (usually knows her stuff) about this at the time and she said i could pay next financial year. is this correct? i will ring up tax office soon but wanted to ask on here first so i dont sound like a complete moron on the phone.

thanks mymatebob. i just looked there now, appears i have till 31st Jan 2009 to send in my tax return for 07/08.
