MBNA - evil or just incompetent?

            HI all
 Thanks for your posts.
I think I already have all my MBNA statements already - I'm a terrible hoarder. Do I need to write to them as well?
I will check them and add up the charges. I've noticed that some credit cards do only charge £12 for late fees etc (eg Sainsburys). Does this mean that you can't claim the charges back?
You wont need to write to MBNA for your statements, just add them up and fire the letter off. Your first "offer" from MBNA will give you the difference between whatr you paid and £12. If your unhappy with this, just write back to them. Their second offer will be all charges and contract interest.
(PS I (still) work there:o )No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

Thanks for the inside info. I've checked out some of the credit card charge claiming info here and will go for it. I thought the £12 thing would mean I wouldn't get anything but that doesn't seem to be true.
Interesting you are a DFW and work at MBNA. I have spoken to some wacky people there actually, in the collections department. Sainsburys and Coop Bank, though, they really are a miserable bunch.0

I think MBNA want you back because in their eyes you are the perfect customer. You get into debt, they can whack loads of charges on but you also have access to cash to pay it all off. What more could a credit card company wish for?0

No problem. I actually know quite a few people that work in the so called Customer Assistance Dept. Some are ok, most just do what they are told without actually knowing if what they are stating is correct.
There other people from MBNA on here also, but not as DFWs or to post advice, more as spies to get a heads up - I know who some of them are, unfortunately, i dont know their user names. No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

what do you mean by spies? Spying on the threads to anticipate what strategies we might use, such as claiming back charges? Or trying to identify people?0

No, not to try and find out who people are, just wanting to know what people are saying about the company, and whats going to happen next. They wernt well prepared for the CC charges, however, after some of them joined here and CAG they were much more prepared for the PPI stuff.
They just come here to keep "on the ball" - nothing more.No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

OK, my paranoia has calmed down a bit now.
Actually, I did find out what had happened about my payment. Turned out MBNA had been trying to take postdated debit payments which I said was OK once last year. I didn't know they were still doing it. My bank changed my debit card in January so the old card didn't work. For some reason the bank allowed MBNA to make a debit using my old defunct number. So I told MBNA to remove all debit card info. Why they kept trying a card that didn't work for four months I don't know. I think I'll pay by cheque next time. I'm also writing to my bank to ask why they allowed the payment to go through.0

MBNA are just evil.. am having major probs with them... they r trying to get me to pay more than my dmp and have been calling any number they have for me (despite being told to write not call) and even when they have been told I d€on't work there anymore still calling and texting my old work mob (they do have my new one now)... being rude and nasty and trying to be pushy on the phone oh yeah and telling the girl who took my job who they were and that they needed to speak to me urgently.. now fair enoug they didn't say why but a credit card co only needs to spek to you urgently if you are indebt... luckily the girl is a friend of mine and relayed messages and told me how rude they were to her... she offered to get the project manager to confirm on the phone that I had left as they obv didn't believer her! Then on the phone to me they questioned my change of job (and pay cut) when I explained that the project was finishing soon she got even worse with me saying well there are people ther... I had to point out that the job finished soon so when I got offered a new job I took it, then she told me I should be lookig for overtime as my wage is dropping... my job doesn't do overtime and the fact that i work away a lot now stops me getting second job... oh yes they are evil!!!

you're welcome to have a good old rant anytime.
The caller from MBNA sounds well out of order. I don't know how you stop them calling your old work number but I have found that if you do need to speak to these companies it is important to put yourself in control, ie call them, don't let them call you. Or if you prefer write to them about your change of number and tell them you will only communicate by letter.
If that doesn't work, there is some information on this site about the Telephony Act which is the law to stop harassment by phone. I don't know where it is, sorry, but I have seen it mentioned.

There is, indeed, a letter that you can send them - I will look for a link.
It is, also, against the OFT Debt Collection Guidelines for them to phone you at your place of work, when you have requested that they do not.
