I need a new upright vacuum asap

Are there any deals.
I dont really want a dyson as I have just been electocuted by it this morning and dont think I could press another yellow button in the near future.
But I do need something that will pick up well, both kids mess and dog hairs.
Any suggestions very gratefully recieved.
