Would you use it?

I've had a clear out of my cupboards and found bay leaves and dried mint that were given me by my ex's mum - me and ex split up over 6 years ago!:o

I also have meat in the freezer (lamb, pork, chicken, beef) with no dates on, that may be as much as 3 years old - Tesco r&r so at least it didn't cost me anything if it's wasted.

What would you do? Chuck it or eat it?
some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it :)

Personally I would use it. Don't tell them until after they've eaten it how old it was.

    Chuck the herbs.

Re the meat, if it were just me and DH eating it I'd probably go for it but there's no way I'd give it to the kids.

Thank you all. DD is now 19 - I reckon after eating a lot of the stuff I've served up over the years, her stomach should be able to handle just about anything!

The only issue with the meat, as long as it's been frozen solid for those 3 years, is the taste and texture might be a very poor by now! Should be perfectly safe to eat though.

I would be a bit cautious about the pork - I find that pork that has been in the freezer for a long time develops a sweetish taste that is not to my liking.
You can usually smell this before you start to cook. If you curry it, it would probably disguise the taste though.

I'd use the rest of the meat but not the herbs.

Well according to my grandad people have eaten mamoth they found frozen in ice and i'm sure that had been in the deep freeze for a little while.

i think this was only an experiment and probably wouldn't eat the pork but i doubt it'd kill ya.
If something i find in the freezer has been in there abit too long like 6 months i remove the date before giving it to other half to cook. What they don't know can't hurt them. He is a chef and some of the stuff he has to try before serving should kill him before i manage:rolleyes:

Not sure about the meat (but I'm a bit funny like that) but I'd use the bay leaves. They probably won't taste *that* strong any more but they won't kill you. I'd chuck the mint though, it's one of those herbs that doesn't keep very well dried (like basil) and it'd probably be a bit pointless putting it in anything.
