Carpets .. you could try Martin Phillips in Newtownards .. they are always open to a haggle and have a large variety of room sized off cuts. They will arrange a carpet fitter (although you may be able to source on cheaper yourself).

Blinds: In Balloo industrial estate in Bangor there is both Charisma and cascade. In the local pres though there are often offers on for 4 vertical blinds for £199 (or similar) .. they also have some rollers on offer.

On the blinds front Harry Corries in Bloomfield shopping centre is clearing out some stock. We picked up a couple of venetian blinds for half price. They also have some 19mm curtain poles on offer,

Beds: Who knows .. StarPlan, Harveys, MFI, Argos .. I suppose it depends on what you want to spend.

Cooker: price on the internet and then go to Curries, Laser, Hanna & Browne (Bangor) or Sams yer man (Belfast). Again loads of choice

Beds - SOUND ASLEEP is a new bed shop in South Street Newtownards - beds for all budgets, they also have a place in Balloo Industrial Estate.

Carpets - agree with IvanOpinion Martin Phillips but i find most carpet places will better a competitors price without much haggling.

Blinds - Reids Blinds Newtownards behind More Store good service - again they all charge very similar prices

Martin Philips for me too - very good to deal with. Got new carpets a few months back and they were very straight talking and ready to deal.

A lot of stores often make their profit from extras such as underlay and gripper rods, not the carpet itself!

Get a price from the carpet shop for "supply only" and a quote for underlay/fitting from your local fitter. Compare with the price of getting the shop to do the whole lot.

If getting "stain guard" make sure that you are actually getting "stain guard" applied to the carpet!

Too many stores offer "Stain protection"...you think you are getting something like Scotchgard when in reality you are simply buying an insurance policy against stains!

Also, remember that it is pointless applying "Stain Guard" to a polypropylene carpet! Therefore, if buying a polyprop carpet make sure the shop/fitter doesn't sting you for stain guard!!
