Council Tax payments

Humph! Just a word of warning. Ive previously spread my C.Tax over 12 months rather than 10 which has made my monthly outgoings a little easier.
I've just rung up to sort it for this month (paid full last month) and they've told me they won't allow that any more - council policy here. Apparently its not "fair".
Just thought Id pass it on. It may be just my council but thought it worth mentioning x x

Yeah, mine too - I rang up after advice from here suggested 12 months instead of 10, and they just said no way, not their policy!!
Never mind, I guess it will be nice to have a couple of months off a year though!

If you can demonstrate that it would cause you hardship to pay over 10 months, then the council should let you pay over 10.
Ive no idea if all councils are organised in the same way, but where I work the person to contact would be the person in charge of revenues and benefits
Best to contact them in writing and be prepared for them to drag it out a bit, really only worth the hassle if you really really need to pay over 12 months.
Out of interest does anyone pat their CT all in one go? as Ive heard about some councils giving further 10% discount, if requested as an incentive to pay up front0 -
That's odd, I was paying over 10 months then this month I requested to start paying by direct debit and when I got this years bill they have now started charging me over 12 months. I can't see what difference it makes to the council whether you pay over 10 or 12?0

East Riding Council do not permit 12 monthly payments of council tax under any circumstances, hardship or not, its not in there policy, so I was told when I enquired.

Our council still allows the option of 12 or 10. They automatically calculate the new tax year over 10 months and then tell you to ring them and change it.
Strangely though this year, my grandparents have opted to pay over 10 months to get it over with and their council tax is costing them less than 12 months they did last year!!?!;)I am not a complete idiot - some parts are missing;)0 -
Councils prefer payments over 10 months as it gives them time to balance their books before issuing new bills.0
