Cash & Carry Shopping

I have been following some of the tips on this forum, and am using vinegar etc for cleaning. I need to buy the stuff in larger quantities and apparently C&C's are the place to go, according to other posters. I've been looking at their websites and they all say you have to provide evidence that you are a trader (which I am not!). How do other people manage to get registered?

Thanks!

I joined Tradex by taking a company letter heading (which has the VAT no. and company registration no. on) and my payslip to prove I worked there. They sent mail through to the company but they just assumed it was advertising. If you are within a couple of miles radius of a Tradex your company may already be registered as they registered alot of local firms automatically, so you'll just need your payslip. Once you have joined your firm tell everyone you work with and they can join too if they take there payslip.

You don't have to be a trader to get a Costco card but you do have to pay (about £30 per year I think) there are some things you can't buy if you aren't a trader but it is mainly bulk packs of Ibuprofen and other stuff with funny legislation, there isn't much you can't buy.

To belong to all of the others i.e Macro etc. I think you have to run a business. If you work for a smallish firm or if you know someone who does they could get you a card. So try talking nicely to your boss. If you are planning on going regularly you could offer to pick up tea and coffee in bulk and save the company money then they might be persuaded to join.

As far as I know Macro and most of the others are free. Costco is quite pricey and Tradex is about £1. Tradex and Costco will let as many people join as have payslips but Macro, and maybe others will only let a limited no. of people from each firm join (I think you are allowed 3 cards per firm)

I haven't seen vinegar in Tradex :o they do have other great deals though

I used to work in a cash and carry. It all depend on the 'rules' of the place concerned.

To start off with we only allowed certain shop-keepers to be a member (Hairdressers were excluded for eg).

A few years down the line the rules were relaxed (cos they weren't making enough money ;)) and businesses like solicitors used to be able to join.

The company I worked for no longer exists so is pointless me putting up which one it was.

Why not give your nearest one a call and ask what sort of business they allow to have a card- you might find ykou have af friend or relative who meets the criteria and could go with them.

    Good luck :)

I used to work in a proper Cash & Carry, we sold loads of catering stuff and all of the shop keepers went there to get all of there stuff.
All you need to do is go to the reception of say Bookers and tell them you would like a Day Pass, and that you are getting some refreshments for your office, i.e Coffe and Tea.

We were told that we couldn't let people have them, but they use to give them out willy nilly.

Good place to get your Meats etc as well, used to get a £8 or £9 piece of rump steak for about £5, i was very happy with that, it's my fave !! ;) )

I wonder, if you formed a co-operative group with your neighbours or family, and printed official looking membership cards, would they let you join?

Do they have any sort of checks that you are a bona fide business?
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Hubby started a landscape gardening business a few years ago, and we just called into makro on the off chance, we didn't have anything other than a few invoices for things he'd purchased for the business and some business cards, but i was really surprised they were happy to provide us with cards. I have no idea if this is the norm or if they're not as strict as other C&C's.

There are some things that are quite a bit cheaper , but not everything i've often seen things priced higher than the supermarket, so i guess it depends on what you want.

I had a terrible job getting a bookers card

someone on this site gave me one which was very kind of them but when it ran out I had to buy a share in the big food company
as a share holder you get a card

they wanted a letter from my accountant
    a letter head

2 other invoices from other traders etc

it would have been easier joining the secret service

    lol
  • Makro is really easy to join and if you have a friend that is a member they can get you a second card.

They will also give membership to groups like PTA which we used for annual fair and buying sweets and juice for the discos.
