    Hi manager,

I'd imagine the best way would be to look him up on the members list. I needed to go that to find someone earlier in the week, though I'm darned if I can recall where to find it at the mo. If I have any joy I'll let you know.

  • Thanks everyone for your advice so far!

I think I need to explain a bit more!!

We have a cable/internet/phone package with virgin for £45 (I tried to split it between all 3 boxes!!!!) I have spoken to them previously and they said we had a 12 month contract - however I shall speak to them again as I would be happy with just freeview and broadband.

The phones are mine and my partners together mine is PAYGO and his is contract - unfortunately he makes lots of work calls!

Petrol - Again - work miles!! He's a decorator and is always driving round all day one job to another.

The car - we had two and sold mine at the beginning of the year and used the money to live on as I was not earning! We kept the old banger we had that was a H reg rover, The engine fell out of it and we went 3 months without a car!! partner lost a lot of work so we now have one on a 3 year finance plan but hope to pay that off sooner  if we manage to sell the house. We tried to go without a car but partner could not see his son (his ex WILL NOT drop him off) and Jake has hospital appointments nearly everyweek in Birmingham and some coming up in chester.

Food is the one thing i have drastically cut down on since visiting the OS board - I have to be really careful what I give Jake everything has to be made from scratch and recorded so i'm doing adult portions as well now, although I only have a tiny freezer its helping out a bit! I've started making all bread from scratch as well with a FREE breadmaker from Freecycle. I know its only tiny steps but every little helps!

With regards to freecycle it has been my saviour!! I've got some stuff to do up the house and clothes as well.

Welcome is what I really need to sort out i'm sure they aren't 100% legal!! It seems like they are out to get our house. We could have got a remortgage and borrowed an extra £10000 to part pay them off but they said we could pay them the money but it wouldn't reduce they payments??? As it will only pay off interest? The thing is we've been paying it for 4 years and the current settlement figure is £23000 so still £3000 more than we originally borrowed:eek: . My partner has written to and emailed the head office re paying some off and reducing payments and they have just ignored us and the local branch won't let us come in and discuss it as they say 'there's no point!' I hate them so much! (and im not over impressed with my partner for going with them in the first place- its a damn good job I love him ! )
    Back Comping after a 2yr break! :j

Hi Fumken and welcome to DFW. You'll get lots of advice and support here.:)
    I suggest you use http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html
to do a Statement of Affairs (SOA) and post it in a new thread so that the DFW experts can make helpful suggestions to you about debt busting.
Thanks again Tustastic. I appreciate the advice. I went on it. Quite scary! I will need to really take time to find out all the exact figures and fill it. I'll be back. Cheers!

    Bargainmummy,
Can I ask what rate DLA you are getting for your son do you get the Mobility component at the higher rate if you do you can apply for 12 months road tax . Have you been awarded Carers for your Son, if you have I think it might be worth contacting the Council Tax offfice to see if you are entitled to a rebate on your Council Tax.

Try putting all your details into this site ............ www.entitledto.com to see if you are able to claim any WTC or CTC.

I think you may qualify for bus pass as your Son recives DLA again the local council will be able to advise you on this.

Please come back and tell us how you get on.
:j I have a persecution complex. Everytime I pass a shoe shop they persecute me till I buy them:j

Hello There... I'm new too and just wanted to share a few ideas with you. The SOA comments are already covered. Jake's food aside... there might be more you can do on the grocery front. Loads of info elsewhere in the site about that. We tend to have mostly the same cheapo meals each week, as follows: baked spuds with cheese & tuna, pasta and sauce, omelettes and loads of veg on side, quiche and salads, Tescos Value Fish Pie (with added Value prawns to make it a bit more interesting), fish cakes and chips. I'm afraid we practically live on Tescos Value! Needs must... the following in the range are OK too: biscuits, potato rings, sanitary towels, pitta bread, fromage frais and chocolate mousse. I shop online so I can search for just Value items... and don't forget to collect Clubcard points! BIG HUGS! It's horrid when you are in debt with young kiddies... I HATE it. BIG SYMPATHY FROM ME!
