People will tell you delete Norton and download AVG.

What is on these emails btw?

You really need to do a full scan with another virus checker but also with some good anti-spyware tools like Ad-Aware and SpyBot S&D

There are stickies on the front of this forum that will help you remove malware - link here.

Get rid of Norton and use AVG, its free and excellent.

Also, google Pandascan and do a free scan of your machine.

google microhousecall.trendmicro.com for another free scan

What spyware programmes do you use?

You need Spybot, Spyware Blaster, Adaware free version, and AVG anti spyware.

You should also use the really excellent CCleaner which is free and a great utility.

Dont ever open an email unless you are certain its kosher. If in doubt scan it with AVG and delete it if its a virus.

<font color="#008000">Dont be offended, but if you surf dubious sites such as !!!!!! you will be bombarded with viruses screaming for your attention. Likewise if you download dialers and speed optimisers from dubious sources.

People are always slagging off Norton, have you run live update and downloaded the latest definitions?
Try doing a virus scan in safe mode.
If still no joy do as above.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

If you slag off Norton you gain kudos on the board - although that said it has in my experience been very resource intensive, not to mention down right impossible to get rid off. If you want to pay for AV then Nod32 is my weapon of choice.

Its a double bonus to use AVG, its reliable in the current version. Less resource greedy than Norton and most important of all in the context of this site its still a free utility.good luck to original OP.let us all know how u get on please.

I've had the same problem on Wednesday, yesterday I went through the advice on Malware and ran the software in safe mode, the only thing that came up was adware on SuperAntiSpyware

The email sent was spam from a company in Hong Kong called trailblazer917

Older versions of Norton were notoriously bad, especially resource hungry - just like McAfee, and in addition were almost impossible to remove fully from a system without downloading tools to clear off some stubborn parts left behind.

The current version does get ok reviews, (various magazines, and comparitive online tests) but it's not the best, IMO NOD32 and Kaspersky would be my two choices for commercial packages.

However, AVG is free, and this is of course a money saving board ;)

Although I was (and many others were) less than impressed with the new AVG Free v8, but v7.5 is excellent, see this thread.

Avast has proved itself for me as my choice of weapon at my workplace, has found virus that other packages including some of the latter mention have not. It is free, just need to register it.
