  • God there are some opinionated, anal, nasty people out there. FOR THE LAST TIME-I AM A TRAVEL AGENT & GET FREE HOLIDAYS. I've only just signed up for this site-how anal, petty minded & downright nasty are some people.

'I guess its all down to how someone wants to, and is capable of dealing with the stress and pressure of financial restraints.'

Good point here I think; I know that it has been made easier to go bankrupt but people still see it as awful, I certainly did, so I personally think there are only a minority of individuals who would knowingly fund a lifestyle beyond their means, knowing they could escape that by going bankrupt - but I'm an optomist.

The OR and judge would certainly, I believe, come down hard upon such an individual, as in the case of my mutual friend.

In my opinion running up a 'personal' debt, as we're differentiating it, must be rooted in something else, or symptomatic of something else, so I think this discussion should become more generalised instead of focusing on the OP as things can get a bit too personal. I guess my debt would be classed as 'personal' as I wasn't involved in 'business', i won't ever post the circumstances of that for fear that someone will recognise me and learn the circumstances of my 'old' life.

This is a lively one for a sunday evening

I think you missed the point of this forum with your first post. It sounded almost boastful and people reacted accordingly.

I think you have summed it up about right. Someone else posted about clearing their mortgage early and got slated for having a good job and using his money how he wanted to i.e. to pay his mortgage off early.

You really can't please some of the people any of the time on here - except by giving them something to have a good whine about.
    Not even wrong

Hey cool down. The truth is always a very bitter pill to swallow.

Yep, this is what i felt. It will take me more than 10 times as long to clear almost half of what the OP's GF owed and had wiped in 6 months, and I have kids to feed. I don't think the OP meant it to come across as a boast, but it does feel that way.

Mate, please understand I wasnt trying to be judgemental on the situation. Just expressing both sides of how people may look at it.

I dont know how i would deal with it if it was me so I have no right to criticise.

As for being anal, opiniated and "nasty"...........thats a bit harsh?!

  • Was not wishing to tar all with the same brush. The responses from all, given that this is british law & can be used by anyone have been interesting, to say the least.

My final parting shot is that she had a problem-this solved it in the quickest way. This was on the advice of a free debt councelling service-TAKE IT UP WITH THEM.

Wish I'd not bothered posting now-had this site reccomended to me.

Please dont just walk away from this site, it is a very very good forum and gives great information...Im afraid that sometimes it is just liek being in a public discussion in 'real life', not everyone will share your opinion, and as the law states, we all have freedom of speech! Its good we have differing views....trust me, this site is great...
In this trusted place U can erase
Every tear that ever rolled down your weary face
All the time U waste in that paper chase
Is time better spent in these arms of mine

Sorry you feel that way mate.

I guess the principal behind this kind of forum is that you will get an allround set of responses from users. Some may be positive and some you may not agree with.

I'm honestly glad that your OH is clear of her debts and hopefully her quality of life is better for it..........

    Beef
