how to convert a video that's in .vid format?

I've read it can't be done. I've always used super or total video converter which copes with most file formats but not this one. Google doesn't shed any light on it and I've read in tech forums it cannot be converted. I have 2 vids in that format that I can't play, a search for codecs proved fruitless too, any ideas?

Use AviCodec to find out which format they are in:

It could well be, say, a .AVI that someone renamed in .VID.

Avicodec doesn't recognise the format, any other ideas? they are viewable on an iphone but it saves them to this format, it's infuriating as I can watch them on that but I want to convert them to avi!

According to this link, it's something else that's been given a generic 'vid' extension, here:-http://www.fileinfo.net/extension/vid
If Avicodec can't see what's inside it then there are other programs that might (after you rename it mp4 or mov for example).
    With Linux I use MediaInfo, there's a Windows version - here:-http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en
    And there's also gSpot here:-http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/gspot.cfm
