People forgive the simple question but this question has been driving me mad at work all day. So I'm hopping that you people will put my mind at rest.

I was paid today and for the frist time i paid Tax and national insurance (i was paid £475.69) I'm a single mum reciving working and child tax cridets. Do i sill pay Tax and national insurance when i recive benefits? I was understanding that i do but was told by a few people that i should not paying Tax and national insurance.
Can anyone help me?

Tax and NIC is based only on the amount of wages you receive. Tax credits and other state benefits are completely separate. So yes, you do still pay tax and NIC on wages.
