Yes, you get AA in the tax year you turn 65 for the full year. Does not matter if your 65th birthday is 6th April 2008 or 5th April 2009 both would get AA for the full year.0

My dad was 65 in September 2007, and has carried on working full time.
Will HMRC automatically apply this personal allowance, or does he need to speak to them?
Thanks in advance.0 -
HMRC should have sent a pension enquiry form and they I believe (according to them but they some times tell you duff info) apply age allowance based on this.
If it was my client I would just call them and tell them to amend the coding any way, which they normaly do.
Remember though, as he is working full time he may be earning too much to get age allowance or it may be reduced.0 -
And if he took the State Pension from that point (Sept 07) and hasn't been contacted by HMRC (they issue a P161) ..... then he does need to contact them quickly. As his increase in allowances (mitigated, perhaps, as in previous post by his earnings) ..... may not be enough to cover the underpayment accruing by virtue of the State Pension? If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
