Reclaiming Library fines?!!!

Sadly, if you do complain about it, apart from probably not getting anywhere because half the people you deal with will be too incompetent or lack the intelligence to understand what you're saying
Well I work in a library and we are not all like that thank you very much. I have to say I get sick and tired of people having a go at ME because they have been fined, especially as most libraries now provide phone and online renewals. However, I don't think it's fair you (the OP) should be fined for days when the library is shut especially if there is not a drop of service.0 -
I love my library and am there all the time - and am always happy to pay fines , even though I don't often get them as I renew on line or you can use the phone - but also, if you wish to dispute them, my library will normally refund them if you have a reasonable excuse - I've heard them do it - the policy seems to be ask for the cash, but if disputed, give in.
I think they do a great job & I have so many newly released books - all for nothing, so I can't complain[STRIKE]DFW Nerd number 729[/STRIKE]Debt Free & Proud0 -
I love my library too - its a small village one and its only open three times a week but I can always phone and renew books. I get fined occassionally but really don;t mind paying them as if I'd had to buy all the books I've read in the last 8 years it would be £££££££'s (i've kept a log and its over 1000 in the eight years)0

The original poster should complain about their bank charges as library charges are not the thing at the moment.ONLY COPY WHAT I AM DOING IF YOU ARE 100% SURE AND YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THE END RESULT MAY BE. Pay up and renew your books on time. Libraries are great value for money even if you have to pay a fine." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Great advice as usual BC
OP ~ I think you just have to take it I'm afraid. I'm actually sitting on the fence as I can see an argument for both sides ~ not like me I know :rotfl::heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob! No way am I cross with the library staff - they're great. I certainly didn't chew the ear off the librarian, who is multitasking by the way because they've incorporated our library into the local council service point.
I am not complaining about the fine either. Fair dos. I was late, I have to pay. I just don't see why they should include the two days the library isn't open and there are no facilities to drop off the books.
To the poster who said to set a reminder on my computer re library books - thanks! A great idea!
I'm just extra miffed because I am trying to save money and have been working 3 jobs recently to help get some money together. I'm trying really hard to get the funds together to go see my son in Oz as it's been 4 years since I saw him, so even though £3.50 isn't a lot, it is more than half my hourly wage and the 90p I was charged for the Saturday & Sunday is....90p!!!:pI don't drink, don't smoke, don't go out - why aren't I rich?
Don't worry, I'm working on it!

I work in a library and find it odd you were charged for days the library was shut. I have worked in a number of library authorities and I've never come across one that has done that.
If you discuss any problems with the member of staff they will usually reduce or wipe your fine. Don't do this too often though! Where I work we make a note on people's cards when we do that as there are many poor souls out there whose mother seems to die once a month!0 -
