Is its possible to claim VAT back on petrol?

Is it (or if it isn't?) possible to claim the VAT back on the petrol you put in your car when you travel to work? Out of the £36.00 petrol I put into my car I only use minimum amounts for personal use - the rest is for work, If I was self employed, I could claim this VAT back but as I work for a multi-national company, is it possible to claim my VAT back on my travel costs?

No, you would not be able to reclaim any VAT per se as only a VAT registered business could do that.

Jounres to/from work are not sen as business journeysfor tax and VAT purposes and so you'd fail on that basis too.

The employer may reimburse you for business journeys (via an expenses claim form) and the business would be able to recover the VAT on that - but again, not you personally.

VAT is a tax on the end consumer so as an individual putting fuel into your car, you fit that 'end user' description perfectly, hence you have no means of recover.
