Being chased for an old debt. Next stage, please advise.

Morning all.
I posted a little while ago about receiving a letter from a DCA which was basically 'fishing' for info. See: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=838213&highlight=Jeekah
Well I have now received a follow up letter from them that gives a reference number an amount owing and who it is owed too, and it was as I suspected, an old CC. In all honesty, I thought it was paid off, or if there was anything outstanding I am sure it is not the amount they are claiming! They state that if I do not come to an arrangement of payment that they will start legal proceedings against me.
As I said in the previous thread, my last payment was in July 2002 (5 years and 9 months ago so not quite long enough to be Statute Barred) but we suffered a house fire shortly after that so all my paperwork went up in smoke so I cant check to see if that should have been my final payment or not. The confusing thing is, it is for a Lloyds bank CC but I bank with Lloyds now (always have done) and have a CC with them now so surely if I owed on an old card, they them selves would have chased me for it by now? I have also not had any trouble obtaining credit for about three years now.
Fermi very kindly gave me the link of how to send off for my credit agreement, so shall I do that now? Do you think they will be able to produce one for an account that is that old? It says I need to send in a postal order, I have never used a postal order before, do they have to be made out to anyone and if so, how do I find out who would that be?
I thought I had paid off all my old debts years ago and had learnt a lesson never to get into debt again, so I am feeling rather ill at the thought of going through all that again. I hope someone will be able to offer some help.
Thanks for reading
