A.A subscription renewal

Loyal and longstanding members of the A.A beware! When you receive your annual membership subscription renewal check the new requested subscripton against the identical cover through the comparison websites such as Moneysupermarket.com. In many cases you will find a much lower subscription offered to new members, supposedly a "discount" off of the "normal" subscription. As far as I am aware these "normal" subscription rates are not published so what is the "discount" actually based on? If you do find the subscription for new members is cheaper than the renewal subscription you are being asked to pay they will usually offer tor reduce it immediately to the lower rate. This has happened to me for two consecutive years and I have been a member for 39 years. So much for customer loyalty when I have to go through this rigmarole every year to get the proper price.

  • same with nearly every service we all purchase (eg Car Insurance)... "new customer discounts" are available to most existing subscribers, but you do have to ring up and challenge unfortunately..

Ours is paid by direct debit. Think we may have to considing changing this. . Whilst we do it for convenience, it does rather leave us a hostage to forune in that it's then too late to phone up and challenge them to reduce the price.
  • I never both ring round any alternative companies, or go online. I just ring my existing supplier, AA, house insurance etc, tell them I've had a quote for (and knock off an appropriate amount, I usually ask round the office to see what current lowest is) and every time I get the lower rate.
