Think i'll give this one a miss, the worlds richest nation should be able to sort out it's own, after all it seems to think it can sort out the problems of everyone else !!!!!
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!

I'm watching Sky News and Bush is on live, and he just asked people to donate to Samaritans and Red Cross to help.

2 minutes later, someone rightly asked if Iraq meant they weren't throwing enough at this - response, "we've got enough resources to do more than one thing at once".

  • Sorry, but I have to agree with bribrian. They are, after all, the world's richest country and flaunt their global wealth at every opportunity. I'm all for humanitarian efforts when it's necessary and I'd give my last pound if I thought that there was someone who really needed it - but not in this case. Dubya might consider reining in the spending on matters which are a bit further from his own shores...

I will copy the answer that I have put on the discussion thread.

Yes i agree in some part to what you are saying. They are the richest country but it is hard to get the supplies on the ground and the Salvation Army were already there in anticipation for this.

The link I put to the Salvation Army is helping people on the ground now. They are a charitable organisation so dont receive government funding. If it wasnt for them at the moment serving 500,000 hot meals a day in the area, then a lot of the countrys poorest and stranded would not have eaten all week, as it is a nightmare to get supplies through.

The Salvation Army is ready to distribute clean-up kits, containing brooms, mops, buckets and cleaning supplies. Other resources provided include drinking water, shower units, and first aid supplies.

WalMart have donated $1 million to the Salvation Army appeal, as they are on the ground now feeding, clothing and helping the thousands of people stranded and homeless.

I have nothing to gain out of this, I have no connection with them, but felt that if this had happened over here, wouldnt you want to someone to provide food and clean water and clothes for your family? This doesnt come free and government aid has not got through yet so this is all these people have.

Well to be honest I hope it never happens here, but if it did and aid from the government was slow getting through cos of the devestation in your area, and charitable organisations offered you clothes and water and food, would you not take it? We to are one of the richest countries so how would you feel if all the world wide charities said no youve got enough money wait for your government to sort it out. Would you watch your children and families starve from no food or water?

No i dont think you would. The link I gave was to people on the ground who are helping out people with BASIC needs they dont want your money to rebuild flashy houses or anything. They want your money to feed/water/clothe/give first aid to vulnerable people who need it most.
