Selling a gold ring

I have a gold wedding ring that I no longer use and, having seen all the stuff about the gold price in the news, I wondered whether it was worth trying to sell it. I've found various websites but I'm sceptical about posting them my ring and waiting for them to send a cheque back... Does anyone have any experience of using online places like this? Any places to avoid? I'm based in central London so I can reasonably easily visit a shop.

Thanks
Kieran

Your best bet would be to take it round a few jewlers (not chain store type) and get an idea of the price. They "should" also have to see your ID before they will buy anything off you.

Take it down to some of the jobbing jewellers in Hatton Garden.

It would depend on the quality of gold in your ring, whether 9, 18, 22carat gold etc.

You would still probably get more by selling on ebay though.

  • I'll give Hatton Garden a go when I get a moment. Thanks both of you for the advice!

  • I have an engagement ring that I'd like to sell. It was bought for £750, but I know it'll sell for less than this now. Do you think I'll get anything near what it's worth on eBay?

    Thanks,
