Help me I think I'm falling.....

Have today received a letter from HSBC telling me that they will be closing my account in 30 days because they had to refuse a dd due to insufficient funds . This is the third time they have had to do this within the last 6 mnths. I have only ever been 1 day late each time but 3 strikes and I'm out. My wages are paid into this account plus several dds come out of it. Has anybody got any info as to which basic bank account I can try now. Only live in a small town but most major banks are here. Am on a DMP with CCCS at the moment [and for very many moments to come], have a poorly paid job, 2 other adults living with me [daughter works, son doesn't and won't claim JSA- but he's my boy and I love him] plus 4 cats and an aged dog.I have to budget very carefully every week and there never seems to be anything left over, and frequently not enough. I can't seem to see any light at the end of this tunnel. What can I do about a new bank account? icon9.gif

I think it would be wise to choose an account with someone you dont owe money to. Pretty much all banks do a basic bank account, so you should be able to shop around.

What about doing a statement of affairs and posting it up to see if we can see any areas in which you can save? http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html is very handy. And as much as you love your son, he needs to either get a job or sign on, its not helping either of you with him having no income.

Try Natwest Step Account for a basic account with a Solo card and being able to pay DD's, standing orders and have salary paid into.

    You can apply online.

  • yes I agree your son should be trying to get some money in. Also can you geta better paid job possibly in your town. Nationwide do a flex account that just allows you a cash card, I am going to get one to help me budget better.

Don't forget if you are on a DMP to make sure any bank account you open is not connected to your creditors - I know you are probably a pro by now at that but thought I would mention in case in your panic you had forgotten!

As for you son - don't give him any excuses you love him course you do but you also probably want him to have a better life than you so kick his butt into gear! Its the best thing you can do for him!

    Agree with all the above.

Bank account - open up a basic one at a bank you don't owe.

Are you son and daughter paying you rent money? If not they should be. Time to teach them the realities of the big wide world and hopefully teach them how to budget and respect the money that they earn. If your son is eating he needs to pay something towards the cost. Hopefully it'll make him sit up and take notice - learning a valuable lesson without getting into debt himself.

    Hi DOB

If you use the following link Basic Bank Accounts, and in the Basic bank accounts section click on publications it will provide you with a list of accounts and what benefits the account offers.
Be sure that the account has no connection to any of your existing creditors though.

If things are still difficult you may want to contact us for a review of your situation. Your budget may need amending and a DMP may not necessarily still be the best option for you, if it isn’t we will give alternative advice. You should have a number on your monthly statement to call on.

    Hope this is useful
