Freeview

Forced by circumstances to cut back drastically, I cancelled sky (family pack),
sick of watching repeats anyway. Was informed that I would be left with freeview, great, I saved £30(argos) by not having to buy a new box.

Been looking into 3000+ channel recievers, very expensive.
Checked out Maplin, they do a satellite kit for £99.99, recieves 4000 european freeview channels. Kit incudes reciever and dish. Also they do a motor for positioning the dish for £59.99.
Then I noticed their B grade stock (returns with 12 mth guarantee) Kit £69.99 and dish £39.99. With their £10 off for £100 spend and Free postage for spending over £30 = £60 saving equivelant to a free motor.
You also need a fixing kit £24.99, not seen one B grade yet

Because B grades are returns, you have to keep an eye out for them.

Worth checking out for other technology as well.

Freeview is a specific term referring to terrestial UK free-to-air channels, most of these satellite receivers will only receive free-to-air (ie unencrypted) channels and will not receive the UK Freeview channels.

If you go to the "get it while you can" branch there's a 60 quid kit including receiver, 2 dual LNB & dish from one of the low cost supermarkets

It depends how far you are away from the transmitter’s tbh. A loft arial if your in decent range is usually the cheapest method as you can do it easily yourself.

Interesting - I wonder if this service will need a different receiver or will the Sky digibox work?

Looks like you need to buy the dish and receiver. It would be nice if you could still use the sky dish and get a new box. Also HDTV is going to take off soon so satellite is the ideal medium for broadcasting for this.
  • Where is the cheapest place to buy a Freeview box. The cheapest I've seen is £39.99 at Comet and Currys.

Also what do you get for the extra money if you buy a more expensive one
  • Argos £30 but no scart lead , Asda £33 with a scart
