What to do with Tesco points?

I don't go into the buying £3000 of beef to get tesco clubcard points, but I do have about £30 stacked away. What is it worth redeeming them on - I won't use most of the things I can see online and I won't be needing airport parking (seems a useful way to use them up).

I also think that holidays aren't the best way becuase you have to stick with one of their tour operators. Aren't there better discounts available - £50 off a thomson holiday is dead easy to find...

Last time I looked, Tesco vouchers were worth the most when ordering magazine subs - ie £6 of Tesco vouchers gives you £24 worth of subscription - or Blockbuster, where the ratio was about the same.

So, your £30 of tesco vouchers should get you at least £110 of magazine subscriptions - which make quite good xmas presents.

On the Clubcard page, click on "How do I spend?" to see these offers.

Blockbuster deal is listed under "Family fun", and magazine subs under "Magazines and Lifestyle"

There are loads of deals and your £30 will convert to £120 worth of product. There are days out (admission to a zoo for instance would cost £4 instead of £16), holidays, kitchens, wine (coming to an end though) to name but a few.

Have a look on the Clubcard deals website. You can either browse all their deals or put into the calculator that you have £30 worth of vouchers and it will tell you what is available for that amount.
  • I now have two regular small-value purchases:

MOT for the cars (£10 worth nearly pays an MOT)
    RAC membership

Up till two years ago Mrs S was simply redeeming in store. What a mistake!
  • Selling on ebay seems a possibility. Should sell for alot more than the £30 face value :rotfl:

If you sell/buy on ebay, don't you need to prove they are yours to cash in?
ie address/name matches the on the vouchers?
    Do they check?

I agree that the Blockbuster vouchers are brilliant value if you rent videos/DVDs often. Also you can get discounted entry into places like Legoland.

I'm not convinced about the holiday discounts. My parents in law have been saving their Nectar points for years (gained from petrol, Barclaycard andSainsburys) and have just cashed them in to go to Spain, they had £250 worth but had to use them with specific airlines (Iberia I think), so the bill for 2 flights was £400 - £150 of which they had to cover themselves. If they were to fly Easy Jet they could both fly for less than the £150 and still not have spent their vouchers. I didn't like to point this out to them, but there is nearly always a catch with such offers. Goodness only knows how much they had to spend to get £250 worth of Nectar points. Only advantage I can see is that they get a marginally better flight with times but it's such a short flight anyway (1.5 hours to where they are going).
  • I was looking at the deals section on the tesco website and you can get experience gifts through another company (buyagift?). They do red letter days type things and I found parachute jumps! DH has wanted one of these for AGES. It was less than £40 of clubcard vouchers so I know what he's getting for Xmas! :D

Becky (off to check the small prtint on the life insurance.....)
  • I use mine to pay for my annual gym membership at Holmes Place, great bargain £150 for a years gym, pool, sauna, steam, all classes! They might even let you pay for your towels and locker hire - haven't tried that myself. The fees do vary in different areas. I guess if you're not bothered about luxury you could get LA Fitness vouchers instead, it's probably cheaper to join there - not as posh, but possibly friendlier!

I used mine for Eurotunnel travel. Saved us loads of money:):)

I'm going to get magazine subs for few members of family as Christmas presents so still much better than just £50 off a holiday

Perhaps a good time to mention how much more Tesco's points are worth than Nectar points - Nectar seem to virtually £1 for £1, where Tesco's seem to offer £4 of discount for each £1 of vouchers.

I think I recently read (maybe even on this site) that even Sainsbury's Bank were dumping Nectar points.
