the Aldi one has double HD for an extra £30 so depends on what you want from the system
  • Thanks woby, think you beat it, aldi one plays div x as well and a massive hard drive. Only cant afford one for two weeks, they probably be gone.

The Aldi one looks great but I see its DVD+R/+RW. is it a problem not being able to record in DVD-R/-RW.

it appears to playback the lot:
    Playback (DVD, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD-R, CD-RW, JPEG, DIVX, Audio-CD, MP3-CD)

I'm just about ready to hop in the car, somebody put me off please.....

Its always hard to decide between low price and good value when their are so many options.

I recently went for the lite0n 5045, 160GB hard disk, can be made multiregion easily and has proberbly the most flexible range of disk options of any on the market. Cheapest I found was at currys on line £227:99 using nhs 5% discount code.

Buy via greasy palm for additional cash back.

What record formats does the Liteon 5045 record in? Does it do more?

    I found some reviews

The Liteon 5045 DVD+R/+RW and DVD-R/-RW but does not appear to do div x

The aldi only does DVD+R/+RW (but from what I see this is not a problem as everything can play this) but I can't find multi region hack information which is a must have.

Both the same price and both specs almost the same, now I just don't know what to do!

Gone for the Liteon 5045 from Currys and with a £20 discount code and free delivery its £219.99 delivered which I think is OK. I don't think it does DIVx but thats no big deal perhaps updated firmware will fix that.

Anyone with any Liteon model, I found this and if it works will avoid the complicated firmware hacks talked about elseware

Also, like all LiteOn recorders, the LVW-5045 has a region-code hack: On the setup menu, move the cursor down to the ‘exit’ box. While it’s highlighted press ‘2’, ‘9’, ‘6’ and ‘0’ on the remote and a separate menu screen will pop up. On this you can choose the region code you want (press ‘0’ for multiregion).
