I wanna Crow Pie

not til august mind you;)
hubby's brass band has a crow pie festival every year however he says as long as he knows there has been a lack of crow pie! he has been asked to do a stall as it is a fundraising event.
Where's a good place to bag me a few crows? would an air rifle be enough, as BIL has one, or would we need someone with a shotgun.
I do not need a recipe as there are loads on t'internet but i need to know of a good place to catch some crows in August :) We live in the city but hubby has to drive through the countryside to get to work.

I mean you should not have a crow pie festival with NO crow pie surely

I would ask local farmers if you can shoot on their land, most of them in this area are quite happy to let someone with a rifle take out a few crows or pigeons.

Literally crow pie? How does that taste? I've never fancied eating one (pidges are quite tasty though...!)

Up here in Yorkshire Rook Pie used to be a country favorite .

The method of capture was to climb to the nest while the squabs were still fledging and tie them by the leg to an adjacent branch to stop them flying the nest until they reached a good weight. Young fat and tender !

yep literally a pie with a crow in it, or rather crows in the plural.
Not a lot of meat on them AFAIK. Its dark meat.
Why should someone be along to say it's cruel? in any case let them cos It won't stop me;)
Pigeon, woodcock, partridge, rabbit and so on do not taste of lead shot.

I wish you lived near me. For the first time since we have lived here, we have crows nesting in the pine trees opposite and they are driving us mad. They never shut up, from before dawn untill dusk they bicker and fight all the time.

We are bird lovers generally and feed all our resident garden birds but I would be happy to see the crows end up in a pie!!
Away with the fairies.... Back soon
  • yeuk I would not fancy eating crow, scavengers that they are! but good luck in your quest, let us know how you get on!
