Mortgage Exit Fee Success

Just wanted to let you all know that last year I posted a thread to ask if it was legal for a mortgage company to split the exit fee refund in half and insist that they could not pay the whole exit fee to one person on what was a joint mortgage. I had dealings with 3 banks and only one insisted on this. The mortgage was always paid by me. Anyway, I took them on and won! They had no right to insist on this policy, if it was a joint mortgage and they provide a refund, the cheque can be issued in either name or jointly. The point I made was that they only received mortgage payments from one direct debit so how can you insist on splitting a refund??? When we did the remortgage, you paid the difference into one bank acoount, not two, so how can you insist on enforcing this policy. I also compared them to other big lenders who did not take this stance. As usual, the offender was Abbey National - no surprise, they can be very dictatorial at times. There was also someone on here that got quite shirty about me wanting the whole refund, well you were wrong!!!

Don't give in to their bully boy tactics, it pays off to fight.
