I need to pick brains!

I need to pick brains on reclaiming mortgage exit fee from the Halifax. I wrote to them asking for a refund on a £175 fee they charged me when I repaid a mortgage with them in 2007. They say the information of a £175 fee was included in the mortgage offer and they will not refund any of it. Is that the end of it? I feel as though they have fobbed me off!

The fees that you are able to reclaim are the ones that differ from your original mortgage offer.

So say for instance Halifax stated in your original offer the redemption fee would be £100 but when you fully repaid it it was £175 then you could claim that back, but if you were told on your offer that the fee would be £175, you cannot claim it back as you were already aware of it.

    Hope this makes sense
