State Pension - opt in or opt out

Upon starting my pension I was advised to opt out of the state pension, which I did. However I read this article:
http://observer.guardian.co.uk/cash/story/0,6903,1339492,00.html
To summarise, this article puts a question mark over the advice pension companies issued when they said opting out of the state pension was the better option.
I am baffled to exactly what the implications are to me personally and I am not sure what action to take, if any. Should I opt back in to the state pension?
Thanks.
