Free Travel for Under 16's on buses and trams in Greater London

The Mayor of London has announced that under 16s will be able to travel free on buses and trams in Greater London from tomorrow, 1st September 2005.

if your or you know children who are aged 14 or 15, they should go to there local post office and apply for a child oyster photocard.

    Im under 16 and this is great.I got my oyster about a month ago and it let me travel then for free.Next september its under 18's free
  • That is such a good idea - its a shame Edinburgh dont follow suit

  • I think you'll find that the important distinction is that LONDON under 16's travel free, they will be given a card which can be taken off of them for bad behaviour on the buses etc.

  • The drivers are being really strict as well. If they don't produce the ID under age card.........................they chuck 'em off. Bit harsh, as the 5 kids I've seen turned away, all looked under 12.
    A friend of my husband is a bus driver, he said they are getting many more kids around 11-13yrs old, coming home on the night buses at 3am !!!!!
