Urgent-car Window Won't Shut-help Please

Hello - an urgent cry for help, please.
I unwound the left rear window for the first time ever this afternoon and it won't wind up again.
Security(car is loaded up)and weather make this untenable, even o/n.
When I try to re-wind, the window rocks out of line on one side and there is a ratchety noise in the gubbins behind the door panel.
I can follow sensible instuctions if some kind soul thinks it's worthwhile my trying to fix it myself.
DESPERATE FOR ANY HELP, PLEASE!
Thankyou for any advice.

Take the door card off and see what the problem is

As a temporty measure you might be able to pull the window up by hand - open the door and apply pressure either side

If you have AA or RAC cover, call them out as they will sort it out for you. they had to do it for me once.

Sounds like the glass has come off of it's runner, either a trip to a garage or remove the door card and attempt a fix.

If temporary fix needed I'd try wind it down to the bottom and have an assistant grab both sides of the side that's stuck and to gradually lift that up as you gradually wind it shut.

Thankyou - did try this to no avail when it happened. A farmer tried, too - ditto.
No garage around here and I'm away for a week after Monday.
I think you're right, inactive. I have a Haynes, so will see if I can take off the panel and looksie.
No AA or RAC - those days are long gone - budget won't allow and the one time I took a quote from RAC last year(thinking to use some Mr T CC vouchers)the cost was madness.
anewman - thankyou, but there is no-one else to help.

Right - door panel off - Haynes is inaccurate, but that part's done.
The window has a sort of square alu. bracket with(one assumes)a toothy thing that meshes inside a metal perpendicular and rises up it, via some sort of engaging process, like a metal zip.
The engagement side of this enclosing perp. is not visible, but when the window goes to the bottom, I can just about see a metal tail, just less than pencil-thickness, appearing and disappearing when I wind it back up to the sticking point. So the tooth/zip parallel seems reasonably accurate.
What to do next - no idea. Someone[male]happened along and kindly spent time trying to help while i removed the door panel, but then we were stuck - LIKE THE WINDOW:mad:  - and he's now had to go.
    Whither now?

Have you looked at the replacing the window panel section in the Haynes? That may have some clues.

Off to check now, thankyou again - if not, it'll have to be plastic or summat.

Fund 'removing rear window' - big job, so car's now parked with that window. binlinered/taped, closely into St John's Wort bush.
    Have to do until Monday.
    Thankyou all.
